Five Azerbaijani villages – Aghali, Lekit, Oryat, Saribash, and Siyov – have been officially recognized within the framework of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Rural Recognition Initiative. This recognition highlights communities that preserve biodiversity, protect traditional food systems, and promote sustainable rural development through innovation and resilience.
Redaksiya reports that these villages demonstrate that rural areas are not lagging behind in development, but rather are leading this process. In the coming months, FAO will further promote these villages globally through the FAO Mountain and Rural Network platform, increasing their international recognition and information exchange opportunities.
The strong partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in developing sustainable food systems in Azerbaijan is noteworthy. Copies of the official certificates are provided below.
