U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a stern message to the Senate Majority Leader regarding the passage of a bill to determine voting rights in the Senate. While John Thune faces conservative criticism for refusing to change Senate rules and demand a lengthy debate to block the Democrats' "Save America Act" bill, Donald Trump has directly addressed the Senate Majority Leader.
According to Redaksiya, the president told reporters outside the White House today, "He needs to be a leader." The top Republican in the upper chamber announced that the bill, which requires proof of citizenship and significantly restricts mail-in voting, will be put to a vote next week. However, staunch Democratic opposition means the bill will not reach the 60-vote threshold needed to advance.
Thune stated that there were "no" votes for a talking filibuster or for eliminating the legislative filibuster altogether – the so-called "nuclear" option also had "no" votes. Today, Trump told the South Dakota lawmaker that it was his job to "find" the votes.
