The leader of Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang party, Cheng Li-wun, is visiting China from April 7 to 12. This visit is taking place as part of a "peace" trip aimed at reducing tensions with Beijing and strengthening dialogue.
It is reported that Cheng Li-wun is expected to meet with the Chairman of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping. This is the first such high-level visit by a Kuomintang party leader to China in the last decade.
This historic visit is considered an important step to reduce existing tensions in the Taiwan Strait. Establishing direct communication between the parties can contribute to maintaining stability in the region.
