Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide stated that the world is experiencing its most sensitive period in terms of security since World War II. He voiced these opinions during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who was visiting the country as part of the "Cold Response 2026" exercises held in the city of Tromso in northern Norway.
Redaksiya reports that Eide noted Norway's desire to strengthen NATO's position in the Arctic region, stating, "We are aware that we are perhaps experiencing the most sensitive days in terms of security since World War II." He emphasized that 32,000 soldiers from Finland and Norway are participating in the exercises and expressed their satisfaction in hosting Secretary General Rutte in Norway. Eide reminded that the war in Ukraine continues and stated that NATO plays a central role in security. He noted that NATO is the sole address for strengthening security and defense in the Arctic region, highlighting the importance of conducting these exercises.
Speaking at the press conference, Norwegian Minister of Defence Tore Onshuus Sandvik stated that 14 NATO countries are participating in the exercises and emphasized that such exercises are important for international security. The large-scale exercises, which began on March 9 in Norway, Finland, and Sweden, will conclude tomorrow.
