The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has requested a $73 billion cut in non-defense spending. This cut represents a 10% reduction compared to the 2026 fiscal year. The defense budget includes a 6% to 7% pay raise for all service members, funds for “critical munitions,” the development of U.S. President Donald Trump's “Golden Dome” missile defense system, investments in “critical minerals and domestic supply chains,” as well as $65.8 billion for shipbuilding.

Redaksiya reports that the OMB fact sheet on the defense budget states that “This amount even surpasses the increase during the Reagan era; approaching historical increases from before World War II, it takes into account the current global threat environment and restores the readiness and combat capability of our forces.” It is also noted that the “41 ships” government-wide, nationwide shipbuilding order is the largest signal of demand for the maritime industrial base since the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration.

It is expected that the Department's (Department of War) expenditures allocated to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs will later be reduced by “millions of dollars,” following previous steps in this direction after the elimination of over $1.6 billion in funds.
