US War Secretary Pit Hegset stated that the American military's industrial capacity has been raised to war level amidst the ongoing confrontation with Iran.
The editorial office reports that Hegset spoke about this during his address to the House Armed Services Committee. He presented the demand for a $1.5 trillion military budget for 2027 as a necessary step to prevent Iran's nuclear ambitions.
According to Hegset, the US military is no longer solely engaged in defense planning but is returning to a production and supply model suited for real war conditions. He stated that weapons, ammunition, missile defense systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, and naval capabilities must be strengthened at a higher pace.
The War Secretary characterized preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons as an “existential struggle” for the US. In his opinion, this issue is not only about the balance of power in the Middle East but also of critical importance for the security of the American people.
Meanwhile, US Chief of Staff General Dan Kane announced that military operations related to Iran have cost $25 billion so far. According to him, over the past two months, these funds have primarily been directed towards air defense, unmanned systems, missile stockpiles, and strengthening naval forces.
Kane stated that an additional budget is vital. He noted that as the confrontation with Iran prolongs, it is not possible for the US military to rely solely on existing reserves, and the military-industrial base must be adapted to a longer-term war tempo.
