Galaxy S26: Magnetic Alignment Still Missing

Despite Samsung's new Galaxy S26 series supporting the Qi2 standard, the absence of magnetic alignment on these devices has sparked discussions among users. When the Galaxy S25 series was equipped with Qi2 Ready functionality, many users hoped to see this technology in the company's new models as well. However, the Galaxy S26 series, while increasing wireless charging speeds and supporting the Qi2 Ready standard, does not feature magnetic alignment.

Redaksiya reports that the head of the company's research and development (R&D) department explained the reason for this decision. Won-Jun Choi, Director of R&D and Operations for Samsung's mobile division, stated that the lack of magnetic support is directly related to the device's thickness. According to Choi, adding magnets causes negative changes in the phone's design.

Won-Jun Choi noted that approximately 80-90 percent of users use cases for mobile phones, and magnetic cases are currently very popular. He added that the company is still conducting extensive research to ensure no compromises are made internally on the device, and they will integrate this technology when they can successfully implement it. As a result, the company has decided to integrate magnetic rings into official cases rather than directly into the phones.

Although Samsung has not added larger batteries to the Galaxy S26+ or Galaxy S26 Ultra models, it has made certain design improvements. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, with a thickness of 7.9 mm, has become the thinnest Ultra model the company has ever produced. Additionally, at 214 grams, it is 4 grams lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, it is not entirely clear if this fully justifies the removal of Qi2 magnets. It is known that users are not entirely satisfied with this approach and wish for a larger battery and magnetic support, even if it means compromising on a thinner design.
