BMW has introduced the iX3 40, a single-motor, smaller-battery version of the new iX3. This rear-wheel-drive version is offered at a price 7,500 euros cheaper than the BMW iX3 50 xDrive model, which went on sale at the beginning of the month for 70,900 euros.
Redaksiya reports that the new iX3 40 is equipped with BMW's sixth-generation electric motor located on the rear axle. This motor produces 235 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque. Paired with an 82.6 kWh battery, the system offers a range of up to 635 kilometers according to WLTP data. This figure is slightly lower than the more powerful 50 xDrive version's range of up to 805 kilometers.
In terms of performance, the iX3 40 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 200 km/h. BMW states that it has transitioned to cylindrical cells in the battery section, thereby increasing energy density by approximately 20%. It is also noted that the “cell-to-pack” design increases efficiency. Supporting 300 kW fast charging, the car is shown to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes. For AC charging, 11 kW is offered as standard, with an additional 22 kW support. The new model also features bidirectional charging functions, including vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) capabilities.
In terms of design, the iX3 40 has an almost identical appearance to the more expensive version, with no significant differences in interior or exterior design. BMW plans to launch the iX3 40 in the summer of 2026. On the other hand, demand for the iX3 series is reported to be extremely high; particularly for the iX3 50 xDrive model, users have filled a large portion of the 2026 production capacity with orders placed even before seeing the car. BMW is planning additional shifts to increase production in response to this strong demand.
