Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a joint press conference with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, responded to a question about whether the US had demanded Ukraine's withdrawal from the Donetsk region. This issue arises against the backdrop of important discussions concerning the country's future and security.

Redaksiya reports that Zelensky expressed his desire to treat the US delegation with respect. He believes the US has not demanded anything and emphasized that he considers them a strategic partner. The President noted that the territorial issue is perceived as demands put forth by Russia. Zelensky added that the US cannot demand anything from Ukraine.

Zelensky stated that his signal regarding security guarantees expressed the importance of military forces and civilians clearly understanding what security guarantees would be in place before any steps are taken on the battlefield. He noted that the US has not offered NATO membership because NATO membership is clearly written. Therefore, it is important for the US to accept guarantees similar to Article 5 and corresponding security guarantees. He also added that they are currently working on this issue and have achieved certain progress.

The head of state stated that they are exchanging views on sensitive issues and have heard the Russians' perspectives and objectives. He noted that they are making efforts to explain their position and are pleased to be heard. Zelensky emphasized that time will tell what the outcome will be on a sensitive issue like territory. Additionally, there were issues during the dialogue where they shared the same perspective.

The BILD publication wrote that Kyiv is temporarily ready for a "freeze" of the front and loss of control over territories occupied by Russia, but categorically rejects the demand for the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from all of Donbas. According to the press, Ukraine is ready to discuss painful compromises, ranging from abandoning its NATO course to holding elections in the country as soon as possible, but there is a line that Zelensky is not ready to cross. The President responded to the question of whether the US demanded Ukraine's withdrawal from the Donetsk region within the framework of a "peace plan." He also emphasized that discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine are ongoing. According to Zelensky, he told his US counterparts to convey their views to the Russians. In his words, Ukraine perceives this as demands from the Russian Federation.
