Ukraine's "Patriot" Systems Destroy Russian Missiles

The recent achievements of the Ukrainian Air Force, especially in neutralizing missiles launched by Russia, have been met with great interest by military experts and the public. These achievements once again demonstrate the importance of air defense systems in modern warfare conditions.

Redaksiya reports that according to Colonel Yuriy Ihnat, head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian invaders have recently fired 12 X-22 and X-32 missiles at Kyiv. Each missile had a warhead weighing approximately one ton. Ukrainian defenders managed to shoot down nine of these missiles. As Ihnat emphasized, this is an unprecedented situation, as only three out of more than 400 missiles launched since the beginning of the war had been neutralized before.

He also noted that the US has been actively modernizing "Patriot" systems in recent years, and the updated systems differ from those sent to Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In particular, the US has invested heavily in modernizing "Patriot" radars. Now, these radars will be able to see enemy targets not at 120 degrees, but at 360 degrees, i.e., in a circular pattern.

Retired officer Anatoliy Khrapchynsky stated that the X-22 missile is not ballistic, but it moves along a ballistic trajectory as it approaches the target. The missile ascends and reaches the target at an angle of precisely 30%. This is why they need to be intercepted by means that combat ballistic missiles.

Khrapchynsky added that this makes maneuvers impossible for the Russians using two ballistic missiles, as one missile would be in the "Patriot's" area of responsibility, while the other would maneuver from behind. Now, neither Russians nor any other country will be able to use this tactic against the "Patriot".

According to the retired officer, the overall interception rate for ballistics in Ukraine is recorded at 25 percent. The interception rate for ballistic or quasi-ballistic missiles within the operational zone of "Patriot" anti-aircraft missile systems is 65%.

Modern threats necessitate the continuous improvement and updating of "Patriot" anti-aircraft missile systems. This was stated by Anatoliy Khrapchynsky, Director for Development at a defense enterprise and a retired Air Force officer, on "Radio NV." According to him, significant improvements in technological capabilities are noteworthy. At the end of last year, launchers were upgraded, allowing for an increase in the number of interceptors from 4 to 16. Commenting on the activities of the Ukrainian Air Force, he noted that they recently managed to shoot down 9 out of 12 Russian "X-22/X-32" missiles. Russians can no longer employ a maneuver tactic with two missiles simultaneously within the "Patriot's" operational zone. Khrapchynsky emphasized that in fact, the active work of "Patriot" systems against modern threats and the recent achievements of the Ukrainian Air Force, particularly in neutralizing Russian-launched missiles, have been met with great interest by military experts and the public. These achievements once again demonstrate the importance of air defense systems in modern warfare conditions.
