The editorial reports, citing the NYT, that the plan includes US missile defense assets, including the “Golden Dome” system, with a primary goal of creating a balance against Russia's presence in the Arctic. Under the agreement, the US will gain access to limited strategic land areas in Greenland, which could pave the way for the implementation of major infrastructure projects supported by the US.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump stated that under the new framework agreement, the US will "participate" in processes related to Greenland's mineral resources. In addition, Denmark officially protested US President Donald Trump's demand to negotiate the acquisition of Greenland.
