UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that he will not back down from his position on Greenland's future, despite pressure from the United States. Speaking in parliament, he stressed that the issue is directly linked to the UK's values and principles.

Reporting via BBC News, the Prime Minister stated during a question session that US President Donald Trump had changed his stance to pressure him and the UK on the issue of Greenland. Starmer noted that while the US President had previously expressed support for the agreement regarding the Chagos Islands, he later criticized it to pressure Starmer's values and principles regarding Greenland's future. The Prime Minister informed MPs that Greenland's future belongs solely to the people of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.

It should be noted that US President Donald Trump on Tuesday called the UK's agreement to cede the Chagos Islands to Mauritius and lease back the main military base a "great act of stupidity." That agreement envisages the legal protection of the UK's strategic military presence in the Indian Ocean.

In addition, US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose customs duties on European countries that oppose his demand for control over Greenland. These statements have further increased the political tension between London and Washington against the backdrop of issues concerning Greenland and global security.
