Following a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Igor Kartavykh, executive director of "Sputnik Azerbaijan" news agency, has been released.
The editorial office reports that the information was provided to Russia's "Kommersant" publication by presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. He described Kartavykh's release as a "positive step" and stated that this decision is of great importance for the restoration of dialogue between Moscow and Baku.
Kartavykh was detained in Baku in June this year on charges of "illegal financing and violation of media activity rules." His release is considered the first step taken towards reducing diplomatic tension between the two countries.
