Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping stated during his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Tianjin on August 31 that China supports Azerbaijan's accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The editorial office, citing Xinhua news agency, reports that the meeting of the heads of state, held on the eve of the SCO Summit, also discussed events marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Views were exchanged on the prospects of Azerbaijan, currently an SCO dialogue partner, joining the organization. Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of increasing the efficiency of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor and proposed expanding cooperation in traditional areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, and energy, as well as strengthening partnerships in new directions like digital economy, artificial intelligence, and green development.
President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, stated that Azerbaijan is ready to develop cooperation with China in the fields of economy, science and technology, transport links, and tourism. He expressed Azerbaijan's intention to work more closely with China within the SCO framework, emphasizing the importance of jointly contributing to the promotion of regional and global peace.
During the meeting, several agreements on bilateral cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, science and technology, finance, and media were signed. High-ranking officials from the Chinese leadership, such as Cai Qi and Wang Yi, attended the event. The news was also disseminated by the Chinese Ministry of Defense.
