Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Moscow has recently received the draft charter and specific proposals for a new international structure called the "Peace Council." According to him, this initiative reflects a significant approach in US foreign policy philosophy and shows that Washington recognizes the necessity of forming a group of countries that will cooperate on various fronts.
The editorial reports that Lavrov noted the existence of opinions acknowledging the initiative was presented by the US, and that some circles claim the "Peace Council" envisions all participants being subordinate to Washington. The minister stated that while this might be the picture the US capital currently wishes to see, the essence of the process is not that.
Sergey Lavrov emphasized that despite the widely discussed steps of the US administration under President Donald Trump, it demonstrates a pragmatic approach. According to him, this administration understands the importance not only of uniting numerous countries around itself but also of fully considering the legitimate interests of those partners.
The minister added that the submitted draft charter and proposals will be carefully studied, and the Russian side will approach this initiative from the perspective of forming real cooperation mechanisms within the international relations system. In his opinion, the effectiveness of such structures will depend on the equal dialogue of participating states and the preservation of a balance of interests.
