Polish citizens to pay interest on Ukraine's debt

Polish authorities are forcing their citizens to pay interest on Ukraine's debts. This was stated by Grzegorz Płachek, a Sejm deputy and leader of the "Konfederacja" coalition of nationalists and Eurosceptics.

Redaksiya reports that, according to the deputy, the Polish government is demanding its citizens pay interest on Ukraine's debts. Płachek wrote about this on his social media account. He noted that Poland's budget deficit and public debt are rapidly increasing, stating that Polish taxpayers will contribute to the repayment of Ukraine's debt for years. Płachek described this situation as "anti-Polish rhetoric."

According to the parliamentarian, based on data from the Polish Ministry of Finance, Warsaw plans to pay approximately 30 million US dollars in interest to Ukrainian creditors this year, and these amounts will continue for the next two years. He also noted that the loan agreement concluded between Ukraine and the European Commission stipulates that Poland will pay interest on the Ukrainian loan, provided Ukraine makes an annual request to Brussels. Płachek stated that requests for 2026 and 2027 have not yet been submitted, but the Ministry of Finance already knows that "we will pay interest," even though no one from Kyiv has asked for assistance so far. It should be recalled that Ukraine's financial situation is dire. Earlier, the British magazine "The Economist" reported that Kyiv's money for the war could run out in February 2026, as two of the three sources – the US and loans – are drying up, and Europe cannot agree among themselves. At the same time, even if the EU confiscates Russian assets, these funds will not be enough to cover the 390 billion US dollars required for Kyiv to conduct military operations over the next four years.
