In an interview with The Economist, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that radical Islam poses a global threat, considering it more serious than communism or China. According to him, fanatical violent ideology, if not stopped in time, can spread to various countries and cause severe destructive consequences.
The editorial, citing The Economist, reports that Netanyahu emphasized in his interview that such fanaticism is a serious threat to societies, citing the ruthless behavior of radical groups as an example. He stated that this mindset knows no borders and can spread to other countries if left unchecked.
Netanyahu presented a hypothetical scenario concerning Great Britain, noting that any state would respond harshly if thousands of people were murdered, tortured, and kidnapped in a single day. Recalling Britain's actions during World War II, he claimed that Israel does not subject civilian areas in the Gaza Strip to mass bombardment, primarily favoring ground operations.
In the interview, Netanyahu also discussed Israel's future goals, announcing the country's plan to completely eliminate its dependence on US military aid within a decade. According to him, Israel already possesses strong military and technological capabilities as a mature state and has reached a level where it can independently ensure its security.
