Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that he would mobilize more than 4.5 million militia members across the country in response to steps taken by the United States against him.

The editorial office reports that Maduro stated this plan was prepared within the framework of a “peace plan.” He called the US's increase of the reward for information leading to his arrest from $25 million to $50 million a “new attack.” Speaking on state television, Maduro emphasized that a special plan for militias across the country would be launched in the coming days.

The head of state announced that the Bolivarian National Militia Force would be deployed throughout the country, calling on them to “be ready, active, and armed.” However, he did not share details about the plan.

On the other hand, US President Donald Trump had previously signed a decree authorizing broader use of the military against drug cartels in Latin America. According to two high-ranking military officials who spoke to CNN, 4,000 Marines and other military forces will be sent to the region as part of this decision.
