Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized existing approaches to the Middle East peace process, stating that the disruption of the sequence of international initiatives has led to the current observed outcomes. According to him, a primary reason for the ongoing tension in the region is the deviation from the content of initial agreements.

The editorial reports that, in Lavrov's opinion, the Arab Peace Initiative initially envisioned the creation of a Palestinian state, followed by the Arab world's recognition of Israel. He emphasized that this mechanism was intended to foster a balanced and lasting peace in the region.

The minister noted that the Abraham Accords altered this sequence, first ensuring Israel's recognition, and then relegating the fate of the Palestinian issue to a "we'll look at it later" principle. According to Lavrov, the processes currently unfolding in the region clearly demonstrate the negative consequences of this approach.

Sergey Lavrov added that real and long-term stability in the Middle East is only possible through a political solution based on international law that considers the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He stated that the current experience should be evaluated as a serious lesson for future diplomatic initiatives.
