It has been announced that Switzerland may grant diplomatic immunity to Russian President Vladimir Putin at a possible peace conference. It is reported that this step serves to form a legal framework for the talks to take place.
The editorial office reports that Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis stated: if Putin participates in a peace conference on Ukraine, he will be temporarily exempt from judicial prosecution. The minister added that this is an important step to ensure the participation of parties in the international negotiation process.
The decision aims to create opportunities for compromise at the diplomatic level, despite the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Putin. Official Bern believes that lasting peace can only be ensured with broad participation.
According to political observers, Switzerland's position may cause disputes on both legal and diplomatic levels. At the same time, experts note that, from a practical point of view, this decision could be an important condition for the process to move forward.
