Israeli and Syrian officials are establishing direct diplomatic contact for the first time after a long hiatus.
The editorial office reports that, according to information disseminated by the French press, including AFP, the foreign ministers of Israel and Syria will hold a meeting in Baku on Thursday — July 31st of this week.
Regional security issues and recent developments in Syrian territory are expected to be discussed at the meeting. This is considered one of the rare diplomatic steps taken for negotiations, despite decades of political tension between the two countries.
Although no official statement has been made by the parties yet, it is noteworthy that Azerbaijan is one of the initiators of the meeting. Diplomatic sources do not rule out that the Baku meeting could be a new stage for ensuring stability in the Middle East.
