A meeting of Israel's Security Cabinet, convened to approve the Gaza ceasefire and prisoner release agreement, concluded without a vote. Although the meeting was scheduled for 5:00 PM local time, it started more than an hour late, according to "Yedioth Ahronoth" newspaper.
The editorial reports that the meeting concluded without a decision after lasting more than four hours. The next government meeting to approve the agreement will be held on Thursday at 10:00 PM. Government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian stated that the ceasefire in Gaza would come into effect 24 hours after the agreement is approved.
As known, the agreement was reached after four days of indirect negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, mediated by Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. Trump's 20-point Gaza plan, announced on September 29, provides for the release of all Israeli prisoners, the freeing of approximately 2,000 Palestinian detainees, a permanent ceasefire, and the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
The second phase of the plan envisages the establishment of a new governance mechanism without Hamas's participation, the formation of a security force composed of Palestinians and military personnel from Arab-Islamic countries, the disarmament of Hamas, and the creation of Arab and Islamic funds for the reconstruction of Gaza.
