Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares received a state decoration from the Palestinian Ambassador to Madrid, Husni Abdulwahid, at an event held at the House of Arab in Madrid. This event was a testament to Spain's support for Palestine and its policy aimed at strengthening peace efforts in the region.
Redaksiya reports that Albares stated the decoration he received was not only a symbol of his personal commitment to Palestine but also of the commitment of the majority of Spanish society to the just cause of peace, the fundamental right to security, and the idea of humanity, which is currently in question. He emphasized the importance of ending the period of violence in Palestine and touched upon the US peace plan for Gaza, noting that it is still far from what Palestine needs.
The minister stressed the need for security guarantees to ensure stability in the region. He stated that Spain continues to support all proposals in this regard, especially the deployment of international forces, which must be carried out with the participation of Palestinians. Albares called for irreversible measures to advance the two-state solution, which is the only viable path to peace. He emphasized that Spain will always stand with the Palestinian people, their dignity, and their right to live in peace and security.
Among those present at the ceremony at the House of Arab were several ambassadors, including Turkey's Ambassador to Madrid, Nüket Küçükel Ezberci, and former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, who also received the same decoration during his tenure leading European diplomacy. Albares stressed that the Palestinian people must have equal rights, just like the peoples of other countries in the region and every individual. Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine on May 28, 2024.
