The Netherlands is taking significant steps in its support for Ukraine, implementing large-scale measures aimed at strengthening the country's defense capabilities. This support is manifested in the form of both military and financial aid, with special attention being paid to increasing support for Ukraine within the framework of the European Union.
Redaksiya reports that the Netherlands' support for Ukraine began with the direct provision of military equipment from the country's military reserves, including self-propelled howitzers (PzH 2000) and fighter jets (F-16). In subsequent phases, this support has been directed towards providing essential equipment and spare parts to ensure the sustainability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as developing Ukraine's defense industry. In this context, special attention is being paid to unmanned systems (UAVs).
Since Russia's large-scale invasion began on February 22, 2022, the Netherlands has committed approximately 13.5 billion euros in military aid and approximately 3.5 billion euros in non-military expenditure to Ukraine. In addition, various guarantees and loans have been provided to Ukraine. The importance of further increasing support for Ukraine at the European level is emphasized, and for the Netherlands, meeting Ukraine's needs and ensuring a fair distribution of the burden among EU member states is of great importance. It is highlighted that significant amounts are available for financial support for Ukraine at the EU level, and the government considers the mobilization of international financial resources for Ukraine in the short term, under the right conditions, to be crucial.
A representative of the Dutch government, in a statement on the social media platform `X` based in the USA, noted that the Netherlands has provided significant support to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion. The government favors reconstruction loans based on frozen Russian Central Bank assets to create funds, and more detailed information on this will be provided to parliament soon. The government is accelerating the allocation of an additional 700 million euros, which will enable the provision of military equipment to continue until early 2026. Finance Minister Eelco Heinen and Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans have submitted a joint information letter to parliament regarding the implementation of the military support proposal for Ukraine. The letter recalls that on December 2, the parliament made a decision to allocate 2 billion euros from the military support budget for Ukraine from the 2026 budget.
