According to The Telegraph, the administration of US President Donald Trump has proposed a new peace plan with controversial content to stop the war between Ukraine and Russia. The document envisages the leasing of the Donbas region by Russia for a certain period.
Citing a source, the editorial office reports that, according to the plan, Ukraine will retain legal sovereignty over the region, but actual control will be transferred to Moscow for a certain period. In return, it is proposed that the Russian side pay a lease fee.
The proposal has caused serious concern in Ukraine. Experts state that such a mechanism could leave the region's status uncertain and complicate future political settlement. It is not yet clear whether Kyiv will accept such a proposal.
