Deputies of the Milli Majlis appealed to their colleagues in world parliaments regarding Remembrance Day
The heads of the working groups of the Milli Majlis on inter-parliamentary relations and the heads of Azerbaijani delegations in international parliamentary organizations appealed to their colleagues in world parliaments regarding September 27 – Remembrance Day.

The appeal states that as a result of Armenia's aggressive policy in the early 1990s, 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory was occupied, and acts of ethnic cleansing and genocide were carried out against Azerbaijanis.

The document recalls that on September 27, 2020, following another large-scale attack by the Armenian armed forces, Azerbaijan launched a counter-offensive operation with the aim of forcing the aggressor to peace and ending the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, exercising its right to self-defense granted by the UN Charter. It is also recalled that during the 44-day combat operations led by the President of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, the 30-year occupation of our country's internationally recognized territory by Armenia was ended, and the restoration of our state's territorial integrity was ensured.

The appeal also discusses the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Armenian armed forces during the period of military operations. It is particularly noted that despite the bloody attacks and acts of brutality committed by the Armenian armed forces, the Azerbaijani Army strictly adhered to the norms of international humanitarian law, targeting only the enemy's armed forces and military facilities, and preventing harm to civilians and settlements.

The document also recalls that as a result of the anti-terrorist operation carried out on September 19-20, 2023, the activities of the criminal junta regime established by Armenia were ended, and Azerbaijan's sovereignty was re-established throughout its entire territory. It is noted that as residential areas are built and restored in the liberated regions, former internally displaced persons are being returned to their homes. Nevertheless, the consequences caused by hundreds of thousands of mines planted by the Armenian side in Azerbaijani territories are also noted with regret.

Despite all this, it is emphasized that it was Azerbaijan that presented 5 basic principles for the normalization of relations with Armenia, made serious efforts to implement the peace agenda over the past 5 years, and that the draft peace agreement was also prepared by Azerbaijan. In this context, it is recalled that the meeting and negotiations between the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia in Washington at the invitation of US President Donald Trump in early August this year, and the initialing of the draft "Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia" created favorable conditions for a definitive end to the conflict.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity," which will be realized in accordance with the agreements reached, will become an important transport link connecting continents. It is also expressed that the signing of a final peace agreement in the future will establish lasting and long-term peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, opening new horizons embodying stability and cooperation for the entire South Caucasus region.
