China has upgraded two of its main air-to-air missiles — the long-range PL-15 and the short-range PL-10 models — based on technology acquired from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is reported that the range, control, and resistance to electronic countermeasures of the new systems have increased by approximately 20–30 percent.

The editorial office reports that the transfer of technological knowledge was made possible by the UAE's experience with Western-made French “Mica” and British “ASRAAM” missile systems. This cooperation has significantly enhanced China's air combat capabilities.

This cooperation, discovered by US intelligence through satellite and signal data, has caused serious concern in Washington. Officials state that the potential transfer of Western military technology to China via third countries could disrupt the regional security balance.
