PC Games on Android: A New Era Begins

Emulation for PC games on the Android platform is continuously advancing, becoming mainstream for many Android gamers. Redaksiya reports that a YouTube user named 'ETA Prime' has released a new video showcasing several Android devices running PC games via emulation, including 'Cyberpunk 2077'. This video demonstrates that PC emulation on Android is now feasible for a wide range of PC games, including several AAA titles (provided your Android device has sufficient performance).

The YouTuber tested several PC games on various Android devices, including 'GTA V', 'Left 4 Dead 2', 'The Witcher 3', 'Spider-Man: Miles Morales', 'Marvel Cosmic Invasion', and again 'Cyberpunk 2077'. For PC emulation, 'ETA Prime' used the 'GameHub' and 'Game Native' applications. The former is available on the 'Google Play Store', while 'Game Native' is an open-source application that can only be obtained from the 'Game Native' website or its 'GitHub' page.

On the 'AYN Odin 3' device, with its 'Snapdragon 8 Elite' SoC and 16 GB of RAM, 'Left 4 Dead 2' and 'Marvel Cosmic Invasion' were tested. Both games ran smoothly at 60 FPS with no noticeable drops. On the 'Lenovo Y700 Gen 4' Android tablet, featuring the same SoC and 12 GB of RAM, the YouTuber tested 'GTA V' at 720p normal settings, with the game running at approximately 40 FPS. Finally, the YouTuber tested three more games on the 'Red Magic 11 Pro' device, which boasts Qualcomm's latest 'Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5' SoC and 16 GB of RAM, with liquid cooling. In 'Spider-Man: Miles Morales', the Android phone achieved around 30 FPS at 720p low settings and FSR 3 upscaling balanced. The DX9 version of 'The Witcher 3' ran at 60 FPS with 720p low settings. Lastly, the YouTuber re-tested 'Cyberpunk 2077' on the same phone, this time with more finely tuned graphics settings. This time, the phone achieved over 60 FPS in the game when frame generation was enabled. Previously, the phone could barely reach 45-50 FPS with frame generation.

While PC emulation on Android may not be perfect, thanks to advancements in translation technologies like Valve's 'Proton' compatibility layer, it is now feasible, at least on high-end Android devices. For instance, 'GameHub' uses a combination of 'Proton' and 'FEX' to translate x86 and Windows code into code that Android phones with ARM SoCs can execute. Running PC games on Android has never been easier, as applications like 'GameHub' can be obtained directly from the 'Google Play Store'. 'GameHub' requires no significant background modifications and comes bundled with all the emulators needed to run PC games on Android. 'GameHub' also features built-in 'Steam' integration, making it almost seamless to install 'Steam' games on Android devices.
