Famous American television presenter Stephen Colbert stated that Donald Trump does not possess the necessary skills to govern the country. Colbert, who hosts “The Late Show” on CBS, also announced that he is shutting down his show and vowed to wage “ruthless” criticism against the Trump administration in the coming months.
“There will be no concessions in the next 10 months. I can now speak the unvarnished truth against those in power, and I am now starting to say what I think about Donald Trump,” Colbert stated on live television.
Trump’s dissatisfaction with CBS is not new. He had repeatedly accused the channel, especially after the “60 Minutes” program aired reports concerning Ukraine and Greenland. Following these reports, the program’s executive producer, Bill Owens, resigned from his position, stating that he had been subjected to pressure from the parent company, Paramount.
Against the backdrop of these events, the media's exposure to political pressure and business interests has also become a subject of discussion. According to reports, Shari Redstone, owner of Paramount, is trying to obtain White House approval for a merger with Skydance studio. It should be noted that the Ellison family, owners of Skydance, are well-known supporters of the Republican Party.
It should be recalled that Donald Trump had previously sued CBS, claiming biased editing in an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris and demanded $20 billion in compensation.
Colbert's decision to halt his show and escalate his critical rhetoric has once again brought to the forefront the issue of media influence and freedom in political processes in the US.
