A new public opinion poll has revealed a sharp decline in trust towards the United States in Germany. According to the results, the level of confidence Germans have in the US is now almost on par with their trust in Russia.
The editorial reports that only 15 percent of respondents in the poll stated that they consider the US a reliable partner for Germany. Meanwhile, 76 percent of respondents noted that they do not trust Washington. This figure is considered the lowest level of trust recorded during the period the survey was conducted.
The study also examined attitudes towards other European countries. Approximately three-quarters of respondents indicated that they consider France and Great Britain to be reliable partners for Germany.
Experts assess these results as an indicator of growing skepticism towards transatlantic relations within German society and emphasize that this could influence future political decisions.
