Reports have emerged about the preparation of new anti-Russian sanctions in the US. These measures will be implemented if dictator Vladimir Putin rejects a peace agreement regarding the war with Ukraine.
Redaksiya, citing Unian, reports that the Bloomberg publication has released information about the preparation of new anti-Russian sanctions in Washington. According to sources, new measures could be announced as early as this week. Additionally, the imposition of sanctions against tankers dubbed the "shadow fleet" carrying Russian oil is also under consideration.
Ukraine's Ambassador to the US, Olga Stefanishyna, also stated that a group of senators has submitted a bipartisan bill to the US Senate titled the "Decreasing Russian Oil Profits Act of 2025." This bill envisages sanctions against individuals involved in the purchase or facilitation of imports of oil and oil products from Russia.
The license issued by the US Department of the Treasury also applies to companies in which the aforementioned banks hold a 50% or greater stake. However, this permission is solely for operations conducted to support civilian nuclear energy. Other operations are subject to sanctions.
The Ministry has issued a general license permitting certain operations with specific Russian banks until June 18, 2026. These operations pertain to projects initiated by November 21, 2024.
In a relevant statement issued by the US Department of the Treasury, it is noted that sanctions have been partially lifted from entities involved in civilian nuclear energy projects.
The administration of United States President Donald Trump has temporarily suspended sanctions against a number of Russian banks.
