During an internal meeting with xAI employees, Elon Musk stated that the company may plan to establish a manufacturing facility on the Moon in the future. According to him, this facility will be responsible for producing satellites for artificial intelligence systems, and launches will be carried out not by rockets, but by special devices called mass accelerators.
The editorial board reports that Musk emphasized that the main reason for this initiative is the inability of existing infrastructure on Earth to meet future computational demands. He stated that the scale of intelligence he envisions is not possible with terrestrial capabilities, and while it is difficult to imagine how this process will unfold, he finds it interesting.
According to the information, this announcement was made after the merger between xAI and SpaceX. According to the plans, the industrial zone to be created on the Moon could be used as a primary launch platform before future Mars missions.
Analysts believe that this proposal highlights serious limitations in the development of artificial intelligence that are not often discussed. As Musk noted, the energy and cooling capabilities required for AI at this level are incompatible with the existing ecological, technical, and regulatory frameworks on Earth.
According to experts, moving production off-planet creates new opportunities both in terms of energy supply and physical infrastructure. This approach indicates that Earth is no longer sufficient for the future development of artificial intelligence systems, and a transition to a new phase is inevitable.
