The French government plans to abandon the Microsoft Windows operating system on some state computers and switch to the open-source Linux platform.

France's Minister for Public Action and Accounts, David Amiel, stated that this initiative aims to "regain control over the country's digital destiny":

"We can no longer accept not having control over our data and digital infrastructure."

According to the information, Linux is an open-source operating system that, in addition to being free to use, can be implemented with customized versions to suit various needs.

It is reported that the transition process will initially begin at "DINUM", France's digital governance agency. However, the government has not yet announced the specific timeframe for the transition or the Linux distributions to be used.

It should be noted that the country's government had previously announced its abandonment of the Microsoft Teams platform for videoconferencing, switching to the local "Visio" service. This system is based on open-source and encrypted Jitsi technology. Furthermore, France plans to transition its healthcare data platform to a more reliable local system by the end of the year.
