The situation in Ukraine's energy system has reached a critical point as a result of attacks carried out by Russia. Strikes targeting energy facilities have created serious problems in the country's energy supply and affected the daily lives of the population. This situation once again proves how urgent the issue of energy security is.
Redaksiya reports that Vladimir Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Centre, stated that Russia is trying to fragment Ukraine's energy system with its attacks. According to Omelchenko, there is a shortage on the left bank, but damaged substations cannot transmit power from the right bank. This situation creates problems in the distribution of energy resources and difficulties in meeting the population's demand for electricity.
"Ukrenergo" warns that the timing and volume of restrictions may change. At the same time, energy workers note that when electricity is supplied according to a schedule, Ukrainians should consume it sparingly. This is important to ensure the stability of the energy system and to provide electricity to as many people as possible. On November 15, Russia attacked an energy facility in the city of Nizhyn, Chernihiv region, with "Geran" type drones. As a result, on November 16, a number of settlements in the Nizhyn and Pryluky districts were left without power. This attack shows the scale of damage to energy infrastructure and emphasizes the importance of repair work.
On Tuesday, November 18, electricity consumption restrictions will be introduced for household consumers in most regions of Ukraine. "Ukrenergo" announced this. Lights in homes will be turned off for 1.5 to 4 shifts. Additionally, power restrictions will be applied for industrial consumers throughout the day. The reason for the introduction of restrictions is the consequences of massive Russian missile and drone attacks carried out against energy facilities. These attacks have caused significant damage to the energy system and created difficulties in meeting the population's demand for electricity.
It is important to take urgent measures to improve the situation in the energy system. This includes measures such as the restoration of damaged facilities, the creation of backup energy sources, and the optimization of energy consumption. At the same time, the population's adherence to energy saving also plays an important role. The timing and volume of restrictions may change, but efforts to improve the situation are ongoing.
