Turkey's traditional Kahramanmaraş ice cream has been awarded first place in the "World's 50 Best Cold Desserts" list compiled by the TasteAtlas platform for July 2025.
The editorial office reports that TasteAtlas, a renowned culinary guide, evaluated desserts from various countries worldwide based on taste, texture, and popularity criteria. Interestingly, Turkish ice cream (Dondurma) topped the list, becoming one of the highest-rated desserts with 4.5 stars.
The uniqueness of Turkish ice cream lies in its preparation with salep and mastic, unlike other ice creams, which gives it a unique stretchy, chewy texture. Its preparation using traditional methods, interesting presentation style, and particular association with the Kahramanmaraş region are among its distinguishing features.
Other desserts that secured top places on the list are:
- 2nd place – Frozen Custard (USA)
- 3rd place – Gelato al Pistacchio (Italy)
- 4th place – Clotted Cream Ice Cream (United Kingdom)
- 5th place – Limber (Puerto Rico)
Italy, overall, was the most represented country on the list, distinguished by various types of gelato.
This result once again confirms the growing international reputation of Turkish cuisine and the continued high appreciation for traditional flavors.
