The deportation of South Korean workers from the “Hyundai-LG” battery plant, who were detained during an immigration service raid in the US, has been temporarily halted. US President Donald Trump gave them the opportunity to stay in the country on the condition of transferring their knowledge and skills to American employees.
The editorial office, citing The Financial Times, reports that the head of state emphasized that the detained Koreans were a highly skilled workforce and stated that they could choose either to stay in the US and support the training of local personnel, or to return to Korea.
According to the information, Seoul officials noted that most of the workers were shocked by the incident and initially considered it more appropriate for them to return home. As a result, only one Korean worker chose to stay in the US; the others – along with ten Chinese, three Japanese, and one Indonesian – will be sent back on an Atlanta-Seoul flight.
