A new study conducted by scientists at Harvard University has revealed that Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese exercise system, is more effective than aerobics in combating high blood pressure.
The editorial board reports that the results of the study were published on February 14, 2024, in the prestigious medical journal “JAMA Network Open”. A total of 342 adult participants, with an average age of 49, took part in the research. The participants were divided into two groups: one practiced Tai Chi, and the other engaged in classic aerobics.
According to the results, 22 percent of those who practiced Tai Chi achieved normal blood pressure levels. For comparison, this figure was only 16 percent for the aerobics group. This indicates that the effect of Tai Chi was higher.
Researchers stated that Tai Chi's reliance on gentle, continuous, and balanced movements reduces both physical and psychological tension, leading to more effective results in combating hypertension. This method is considered a favorable alternative, especially for middle-aged individuals.
It should be noted that Tai Chi is characterized by a combination of breathing algorithms, body balance, and slow, harmonious movements. In recent years, it has generated widespread interest regarding its beneficial effects in stress management, joint diseases, heart health, and blood pressure regulation.
