Shoygu's Deputy Sentenced to 19 Years on Corruption Charges

Pavel Popov, who served as deputy to Russia's former Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, was sentenced on charges of corruption and embezzlement. According to the court's decision, he was given a 19-year prison sentence in a penal colony.

The editorial office reports that Popov was also stripped of his general's rank. He did not plead guilty during the court proceedings.

His lawyer called the court's verdict "baseless". The lawyer also stated that he would appeal this decision.
