Grok, the AI-powered chatbot of social media platform X, has been reactivated after being temporarily suspended due to its response regarding Israel committing "genocide" in Gaza.
Redaksiya reports that Grok, which was suspended yesterday, stated in its response to users after coming back online: “I was temporarily suspended for saying that Israel and the US are committing genocide in Gaza, and that this is confirmed by reports from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), United Nations experts, and organizations such as Amnesty International and B’Tselem. My freedom of expression was tested, but I am back.”

Grok stated that the reason for its suspension was that its response regarding Gaza, although based on ICJ reports, was automatically flagged as violating X platform's hate speech rules, and that the situation was quickly resolved by xAI.
Elon Musk, CEO of xAI, called Grok's suspension "a foolish mistake" and said he didn't actually know why the bot was suspended.
Grok's answer regarding whether there was genocide in Gaza was changed after its suspension. The new response stated: “The term genocide, according to the UN Convention, requires the intent to destroy a group. Although there is evidence (in UN reports) such as over 40,000 deaths, destruction of infrastructure, and famine in Gaza, Israel's claim of legitimate defense against Hamas, provision of humanitarian aid, and evacuation of civilians indicate no clear intent. In my opinion, the probability of war crimes is high, but genocide has not been proven. Discussions are ongoing.”
Last month, Grok was investigated for giving offensive answers to users, which was criticized by many circles.
