Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has stated that stablecoins can become the main tool for companies seeking faster payment methods to enter the cryptocurrency sector. In his opinion, chief financial officers and treasurers are evaluating stablecoins as faster solutions for business payments and treasury activities. Developments in this area, according to Bloomberg Intelligence forecasts, indicate that stablecoin flows will reach $56.6 trillion by 2030, supporting broader payment adoption. Ripple's RLUSD is currently tenth by market capitalization, and the company is expanding its infrastructure through strategic acquisitions.
Redaksiya reports that Garlinghouse noted CFOs, treasurers, and COOs are asking more questions about how stablecoins can fit into corporate operations. He emphasized that stablecoins could be the "ChatGPT moment" for cryptocurrency for businesses. The main shift, he said, will occur when companies' finance teams gain the ability to use stablecoins directly for payments and treasury activities. According to him, many companies are already discussing this step at the executive level.
It has been noted that questions are being asked to the internal finance leaders of companies like Fortune 500 and Fortune 2000 about the role stablecoins should play in their plans. Market growth supports the fundamental argument for business. Bloomberg Intelligence reported in early January that stablecoin flows could grow at a compound annual growth rate of 80% to reach $56.6 trillion by 2030. This forecast adds to the idea that stablecoins can play a larger role in global payments. Garlinghouse also stated that stablecoins processed over $33 trillion in trading volume last year. He added that nearly 90% of this volume came from Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC, with these stablecoins still holding the largest market share. Furthermore, Ripple entered the market in December 2024 with Ripple USD, or RLUSD. According to CoinGecko data, RLUSD currently has a market capitalization of approximately $1.4 billion, making it the 10th largest stablecoin by market capitalization. Ripple has also expanded its payments and treasury infrastructure through acquisitions. The company has added more tools for business-focused blockchain services by acquiring institutional prime brokerage Hidden Road for $1.25 billion and corporate treasury platform GTreasury for $1 billion.
Regulation remains part of the strategy. Garlinghouse stated that regulation in the US will play a significant role in how quickly stablecoin payments can expand. He noted that the CLARITY Act could accelerate adoption if Congress passes the bill and the president signs it. He also added that many market participants are closely watching the US for clearer rules. In the interview, Garlinghouse criticized regulatory approaches under former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, saying, "There are a lot of eyes on how US regulation will look and how it will be implemented."
