The presidents of Egypt and Russia participated in a conference mode at the ceremony for the installation of the reactor vessel for the first power unit of Egypt's first Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) - El-Dabaa - built by "Rosatom". This event also provided a basis for personal meetings between the leaders.
Redaksiya reports that in a video conference format, Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi participated in the ceremony for the installation of the reactor vessel for the first power unit of El-Dabaa, Egypt's first NPP. The Russian leader noted that "the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Egypt with Russia's participation is successfully continuing. In fact, we are moving to the main stage of the plant's technological equipment. In the near future, this plant will be able to start producing the electricity required to meet the needs of Egypt's growing economy."
Vladimir Putin also congratulated Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on his birthday. The Russian president stated that the Egyptian President actively promotes not only the NPP project but also the expansion of all cooperation between the countries. According to EADaily, El-Dabaa will be the first nuclear power plant in Egypt and will consist of four power units, each with a capacity of 1200 MW. Outside of Russia, one such type of plant exists at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant. According to "Rosatom", under the contract obligations, the Russian side will not only build the plant but also supply Russian nuclear fuel for the entire lifespan of the nuclear power plant, assist Egyptian partners in personnel training, and provide support in the operation and maintenance of the plant for the first 10 years. Within the framework of another agreement, the Russian side will build a special storage facility and supply containers for the storage of spent nuclear fuel.
