The reasons for Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's non-participation in the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting held in St. Petersburg, Russia, on December 21, and in the CIS heads of state informal summit to be held today, have been explained.
The editorial reports, citing information released by the Presidential Administration, that President Ilham Aliyev did not participate in the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting held on December 21 because Azerbaijan is not a member of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The head of state will not be able to attend the informal summit of CIS heads of state to be held in St. Petersburg today due to a tight work schedule.
It is recalled that Azerbaijan regularly participates in official CIS summits as a member state and attaches great importance to cooperation within the CIS, including the development of bilateral relations with member states.
President Ilham Aliyev participated in the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on October 9-10 this year. The meetings held within the framework of the session, both bilateral and multilateral, were productive.
