A 243-kilogram bluefin tuna sold for a record amount at a fish auction in Tokyo. The fish was purchased for 510 million yen, approximately 3.2 million euros.
The bluefin tuna put up for sale was caught in the waters of Aomori Prefecture, located in northern Japan. The buyer of the fish was a large Japanese restaurant chain specializing in sushi.
It is believed that purchasing the main lot at the first auction of the year in Japan brings good luck for business. Such purchases are reported to attract customer attention, leading to long queues to taste the most expensive fish.
