French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Europe is facing a deepening geopolitical and economic crisis, openly expressing that expectations regarding the US have not been met. According to him, Europe has long believed the US to be a reliable security partner, but reality has shown otherwise.
As reported by the editorial team, in an interview with European media, Emmanuel Macron characterized China as a "commercial tsunami" and the US as an "unpredictable and unstable partner," emphasizing that Europe is under double pressure. He stated that the situation has dramatically worsened since the 2024 report by former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi on the competitiveness of the European Union.
According to Macron, Europe is currently facing unfair competitors who do not adhere to World Trade Organization rules. He noted that if the European Union does not take any action in the next 3-5 years, it will be completely sidelined in strategic areas. The French President stressed that in cases of overt aggression, bowing one's head or seeking compromise is not the correct approach.
Emmanuel Macron added that Europe has tested this strategy for months, but it has become clear that it has yielded no results. He also pointed out that although Europe has eliminated its dependence on Russia, it has instead become dependent on the US, with 60% of Europe's liquefied natural gas supply currently provided by the US. In the French leader's opinion, this situation poses a serious risk to Europe's strategic independence.
