Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has once again clarified her position on the Palestinian issue.
The editorial office reports that Meloni declared her “strong support” for the creation of a Palestinian state, but stated that it is not right to recognize a state that has not yet been established and whose legal foundations have not been defined.
“The creation of a Palestinian state must be part of the peace process. But unilateral recognition before this process is complete will not bring a solution to the conflict,” Meloni noted.
The Italian government has also declared that it will no longer turn a blind eye to the massacres and the hunger crisis occurring in Gaza. Official Rome states that international law is being violated and demands an immediate ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian aid routes in the region.
Italy's position is evaluated as a more cautious, yet humanitarian principles-based approach, at a time when countries like France and Spain are preparing to recognize Palestine.
