Azerbaijan has never allowed its territory to be used against Iran. This policy continues today. Against this backdrop, an attack on the civilian infrastructure of a sovereign state, with no connection to the war between Iran and the American-Israeli coalition, is in no way acceptable.
Carrying out a drone attack on civilian infrastructure is a sign of weakness and cowardice. By launching a drone attack on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Iran has once again demonstrated its immaturity. The fact that this issue was discussed at a meeting of Azerbaijan's Security Council chaired by President Ilham Aliyev confirmed how sensitive official Baku is to state security matters. Nakhchivan is one of Azerbaijan's most strategically sensitive regions. Geographically located in a blockade, this region is also an important geopolitical part of the region. An attack on such a territory with an unmanned aerial vehicle is not just a local incident, but an act of terror directed against Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. President Ilham Aliyev also stated that "The Azerbaijani state strongly condemns this heinous act of terror, and those who committed it must be immediately held accountable. Explanations must be provided to the Azerbaijani side by Iranian officials, an apology must be issued, and those who committed this act of terror must be brought to criminal responsibility."
The strong messages conveyed by President Ilham Aliyev were not only a reaction to a specific incident but also a warning to all forces, primarily Iran, that hold a provocative stance against our country.
Official Baku immediately responded politically and diplomatically to this incident. At the Security Council meeting, the head of state clearly stated that Azerbaijan is capable of taking all necessary steps to ensure the inviolability of its borders. The mobilization of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to the highest alert level, as ordered by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, proves this. This stance demonstrates the strengthening of the security system within the country and is also a clear message to the countries of the region.
Azerbaijan demands a serious investigation and explanation from the Iranian side. Official Baku has once again demonstrated its will to ensure its security. The main goal here is to prevent potential threats. One of the main principles of Azerbaijan's foreign policy is the preservation of regional stability. However, at the same time, official Baku clearly shows that any threat directed at the state borders will not go unanswered.
The incident occurs against the backdrop of a changing geopolitical balance in the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan's growing political and economic weight in the region in recent years, especially its role in energy and transportation projects, has created new realities. International energy and transportation projects initiated by Azerbaijan have made the country a key strategic partner in the Eurasian space. In this regard, any security incident in the region could have dangerous consequences not only for Azerbaijan but for a wide geography.
Azerbaijan takes a principled stance on national security issues. The speech by President Ilham Aliyev clearly demonstrated that the protection of the state's national interests is the main priority.
