Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has sent an official letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, members of the Security Council, and European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

The editorial office reports that in the letter, Araghchi presented strong legal and political arguments against the re-imposition of UN Security Council sanctions related to Iran. The minister shared a post on the social network “X” (Twitter) revealing the main theses of the document.

According to him, Great Britain, Germany, and France — i.e., the European countries known as “E3” — have already lost their partner status in the nuclear agreement due to their statements and actions within the framework of the deal, and therefore do not have the right to demand the re-imposition of abrogated resolutions.

Araghchi accused the E3 of supporting the US “maximum pressure” policy against Iran and indirectly complicit in military aggression. In his opinion, an entity with such activities has no right to speak of “goodwill.”

The minister also recalled that in their letter dated August 20, 2020, the E3 countries had called on the US to refrain from steps that could deepen divisions in the UN Security Council. Now, according to Araghchi, the European “trio” should heed its own advice.
