Today marks the day of the liberation of Hadrut settlement in Khojavand district.

As a result of the counter-offensive operations carried out by the Azerbaijani Army starting from September 27, 2020, Hadrut settlement was liberated from enemy occupation on October 9.

During the battles, the Azerbaijani Army advanced on the southern front in early October, heading towards Hadrut – a direction the enemy did not expect. The liberation of Hadrut was largely one of the operations that decided the fate of the war. While the enemy expected Azerbaijani servicemen to advance towards Shusha from another direction, the Azerbaijani Army liberated Hadrut and then proceeded towards Shusha. Therefore, the battles for Hadrut played a very significant role in the liberation of Shusha.

Thus, heavy battles began on October 7, and on October 9, the Azerbaijani Army took control of strategically important villages and heights located near the settlement. On the same day, along with Hadrut settlement, the villages of Çaylı in Tartar, Yuxarı Güzlək, Gorazıllı in Fuzuli, Qışlaq, Qaracallı, Əfəndilər, Süleymanlı in Jabrayil, and Sor in Khojavand were also liberated from enemy occupation.

On March 16, 2021, the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev, raised the state flag and delivered a speech in Hadrut settlement.
