Fagan Abdurahmanov, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy, participated in the prestigious international event “WindEurope Annual Event 2026” held in Madrid, the capital of the Kingdom of Spain.

The opening ceremony of the event was attended by the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Policy, the Prime Minister of the Spanish government, energy ministers of European countries, as well as leading companies in the wind energy sector, turbine manufacturers, and other international partners. Within the framework of the event, global development trends and strategic directions in the wind energy sector were discussed.

The Deputy Director participated in several thematic sessions within the event. These sessions covered topics such as the application of artificial intelligence in wind energy operations, data centers and electrification, integration of data centers with renewable energy, connections between wind energy and the defense sector, as well as reducing investment risks. Additionally, participation took place in the ministerial session on offshore wind energy and discussions on expanding the supply chain.

Within the framework of the visit, a meeting was held with the WindEurope organization. During the meeting, issues arising from the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Agency and WindEurope, and future directions of cooperation were discussed.

Furthermore, at a meeting with the Spanish company “Eolos”, a measurement campaign to be launched soon regarding wind measurements using floating lidar devices in the Caspian Sea was discussed.

Concurrently, at a meeting with representatives of the World Bank, issues arising from a technical assistance project related to the local production of some wind turbine components in Azerbaijan, as well as the transfer of existing knowledge and skills from the offshore oil and gas sector to the offshore wind energy sector, were discussed.

Also, at a meeting with the Spanish company “Elecnor”, the current situation regarding the agreement of contracts for the company's planned 70 MW wind energy project in Azerbaijan, as well as the process of commencing measurements, was discussed.
