Corsair Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG: Magnesium Mouse Surprises with its Price

Redaksiya · Media ·

The new "Corsair Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" computer mouse draws attention with its lightweight construction made from magnesium alloy, but it is noted that its high price does not fully align with its features.

Redaksiya reports that this model further develops the ultra-light and high-performance wireless mouse concept of previous versions in terms of materials. One of the two new versions introduced at CES in January is made of magnesium, and the other is made of carbon fiber. Material choice is important to differentiate among the many lightweight and performance-oriented gaming mice available on the market today.

The "Corsair Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is the magnesium version. It is an ultra-light wireless mouse with a symmetrical shape and a perforated magnesium alloy body. The mouse weighs 56 grams, which is 20 grams heavier than the original "Sabre v2 Pro" (36 grams). It is equipped with the "Corsair Marksman S 33K" sensor, which offers sensitivity up to 33,000 DPI, a maximum speed of up to 750 IPS, and durability up to 50 G. The mouse supports an update rate of up to 8000 Hz (in wired and wireless mode) and a battery life of up to 120 hours via 2.4 GHz wireless connection at a 1000 Hz update rate.

The mouse's design looks quite unusual. Its magnesium body has numerous holes. However, it is questionable whether these holes and the magnesium body are worth an additional $50. The mouse is currently available for $149.99 in black and white color options.

The "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is a wireless, pseudo-symmetrical, ultra-light gaming mouse. It is a cheaper version of the "Corsair Sabre v2 Pro Wireless CF" model made from carbon fiber. The "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is made of magnesium and has a perforated body. This makes it only 1 gram heavier than its carbon fiber counterpart: the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" weighs 56 grams, while the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless CF" weighs 55 grams.

The holes in the mouse's body are large and mainly cover the upper part of the body and part of the buttons. These holes do not make a significant difference in grip, as its profile is low and it is more suitable for claw or fingertip grip styles. The matte black surface of the magnesium body has a slight sheen and feels average overall. One would wish for the surface of the mouse to be a bit smoother, as the magnesium body itself is one of the product's main selling points.

The "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is approximately the same size as other symmetrical, ultra-light mice. Its length is 122.7 mm, width is 63.8 mm, and height is 38.3 mm. For comparison, the "Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2" measures 125 x 63.5 x 40 mm, and the "Asus ROG Harpe Ace Extreme" measures 127.5 x 63.7 x 39.6 mm. Thus, the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is slightly smaller than these models.

The mouse has five programmable buttons, including the scroll wheel button. The main mouse buttons are large, separate, and flat. The side buttons are standard and well-placed, easily distinguishable and quick to press. The mouse has a scroll wheel covered with a black textured rubber strip in neon yellow.

On the underside of the mouse, there are two curved UPE mouse feet at the top and bottom. Corsair also provides additional, larger feet that can be replaced if needed. There is also a DPI button and a power button that allows switching between 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth. The DPI button is not programmable.

The box includes several accessories with the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG": a 1.8-meter braided USB-C to USB-A cable for charging, the mouse's 2.4 GHz wireless dongle, pre-cut grip tapes, and additional mouse feet.

The "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is equipped with its own "Corsair Marksman S" optical sensor. This sensor offers a maximum sensitivity of up to 33,000 DPI, a maximum speed of up to 750 IPS, and acceleration resistance of up to 70 G. This is the same sensor used in the standard plastic "Sabre v2 Pro" model, and it performs excellently. The mouse's movement is smooth and highly responsive, especially in fast-paced combat games like "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7" and "Overwatch".

The sensor is also extremely accurate and reliable. No lag, latency, or stuttering issues were observed during image and video editing. Like many premium gaming mice on the market today, the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" supports an 8000 Hz update rate (in wired and wireless mode), but it comes with a default 1000 Hz update rate. Most users will not notice the difference between 1000 Hz and 8000 Hz, especially in esports competitions where every millisecond counts. While it's possible to feel the mouse moving more smoothly on the screen at an 8000 Hz update rate, it won't dramatically impact the gaming experience.

The main buttons of the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" use Corsair's own mechanical switches, rated for 100 million clicks. These buttons are relatively quiet and provide a pleasant, crisp tactile feel. The side buttons also feel good, with smooth and distinct clicks. The scroll wheel is a bit soft, but it doesn't bother the user.

The "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" can be configured via "Corsair Web Hub". This is the brand's new online peripheral configuration tool. Since the mouse is relatively simple, there isn't much to configure, but you can use the "Web Hub" to assign the mouse's five programmable buttons to any function, including macros (a macro recorder is available in "Web Hub"). You can also set the DPI steps to cycle through when the DPI button is pressed.

Several changes can be made to the device settings: the update rate (8000 Hz / 4000 Hz / 2000 Hz / 1000 Hz) can be set, and features like lift-off distance, angle snapping, and jitter control can be enabled or disabled.

The "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" offers three connectivity options: 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and wired (via USB-C). A USB-C to USB-A cable is included with the mouse, but it is not a flexible, low-friction cable as seen on many mice and is not intended for use as a wired mouse. The inclusion of Bluetooth is a welcome addition, as most mice of this type do not offer this feature. However, not everyone is a professional gamer, and sometimes people want to use the mouse for non-gaming purposes with other devices.

Corsair claims up to 120 hours of battery life for the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" via 2.4 GHz wireless connection at a 1000 Hz update rate, which is slightly better than comparable mice. The "Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2" offers around 95 hours, and the "Asus ROG Harpe Ace Extreme" offers 70 hours. The "Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro" has a battery life of up to 150 hours. Thus, the "Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is not the longest-lasting wireless mouse on the market, but it is in the high-end category. Of course, when the update rate is increased to 8000 Hz, this duration drops to only 21 hours.

Although the "Corsair Sabre v2 Pro Wireless MG" is $50 cheaper than the carbon fiber version, it still costs $150. This price is the starting point for most premium flagship mice. If you are looking for a simple, ultra-light wireless mouse that is not made of plastic, it's not a bad choice, but it looks very similar to many other mice. Since we don't think the magnesium alloy body feels significantly more premium than standard plastic mice, opting for plastic models like the cheaper standard "Corsair Sabre v2 Pro" might be more sensible.
